Corner ornaments record the dates of founding (1884) and construction of this sparkling gem of commercial design for a local jewelry store. Like its contemporary Bon-Ton Department Store (
YO4), it marks the post–World's Columbian Exposition of 1893 shift toward light-hued classicism that arrived in York a decade after it appeared in larger metropolises. Dempwolf also designed the adjacent Rosenmiller Building two years earlier in the brownstone and yellow brick of his Colonial Hotel (
YO9).
