Colonel John Kelly constructed a modest weatherboarded log house, now much altered, in 1775, on the land bounty he received for service in the French and Indian War. Renowned as an Indian fighter and buffalo hunter, Kelly Township, Kelly Cross Roads, and Kelly Point are all named for this local hero.
