The Presbyterians built the first church in Union County at Buffalo Cross Roads in 1784, a log structure that gave way in 1816 to a stone meetinghouse on land donated by Edward and John Shippen of Philadelphia. This in turn was replaced thirty years later with the present Greek Revival church. Constructed of brick on a fieldstone podium, the church is entered from a tapered flight of steps leading up to the wooden portico where four square Roman Tuscan columns support the square-patterned frieze and clapboarded pediment. The interior retains the original pews and woodwork but the altar and light fixtures were modernized. The old churchyard, surrounded by a stone wall, contains graves of some of the county's earliest settlers.
