This sure-handed work is a noteworthy example of Robert Venturi's influence that brightens a four-story office and retail building constructed by interests connected with the Rite Aid pharmacy chain. The building is at once startling but quite contextual: atop a rusticated concrete base with flattened and abstracted details, a series of tiered curtain wall colonnades extend along Spruce Street before bowing outward in a gentle curve that echoes the corner bay of the Brooks Building (
LK4) across the street. The topmost colonnade takes the form of an abstracted stoa, its end pediment bearing the Rite Aid logo.
