The oldest house still standing in Elko is now used by Chilton Engineering to store and sell maps. The one-story, L-shaped building is typical of mid-nineteenth-century vernacular architecture in the area, when residents erected modest wood-frame dwellings. The house has drop siding, a full-length porch supported on posts, and window surrounds with simple moldings.
