This two-story masonry Beaux-Arts classical structure, designed by California architect William H. Weeks, is one of the most monumental in the state. A massive two-story portico supported by four Tuscan columns ending in capitals with a prominent egg-and-dart motif projects from the symmetrical main facade, elevated on a masonry foundation. An ornamental cartouche decorates the pediment over the portico; above the door is a basrelief of a female face personifying Justice. Terra-cotta quoins adorn the corners of the building; on the side elevations, engaged columns echo the full columns on the facade. The courthouse features a full entablature capped with an ornate balustrade, and a flat roof with a shallow dome. The building stands on a large lot that also contains Elko's first high school, a small building now used as county offices.
