Originally a public elementary school, the Paul Revere School became a parochial institution in the 1950s. In 1988, the Archdiocese of Boston's Planning Office for Urban Affairs converted the school to mixed-use housing. The twenty-four-unit cooperative comprises a rare coexistence of market rate condominiums with subsidized units for low-to-middle-income dwellings. Rehabilitated, this solid structure in the heart of the North End features all the fine aspects of the old (masonry, ornamental stonework) with modern amenities of the new (interior skylight, double-glazed windows). Here, the best of the preservation and modern movements are successfully integrated.
