Zigzag Moderne is rare in conservative downtown Colorado Springs, but after years of designing in traditional styles in the offices of Robert Roeschlaub and Thomas MacLaren, T. D. Hetherington broke loose with this solo effort. The terracotta facade of the rectangular, two-story building rises in piers culminating in a castellated parapet. Low-relief terracotta trim provides embellishment in patterns that also appear in the
metal entry canopy. This building represented an unusual $110,000 public investment in municipally owned utilities in a conservative city.
