Densely planted with live oak trees, Chatham Square has long provided a shady setting for residents and students, serving as a playground during the early twentieth century for the adjacent elementary school. Occupying the northwest trust lot is a row of four houses, disguised as a grander pair by having the entrance stairs to the middle two houses on the front and the stairs to the outer houses on the flanking north and south sides.
