This fanciful recreation of an Elizabethan cottage has leaded, diamond-paned windows and a gable roof of green tile with ornate chimneys. Red brick wall contrast with creamy terracotta trim. Over the fireplaces are murals by Denver artist Dudley Carpenter, The Pied Piper of Hamlin and The Lady of the Lake and the Sword Excalibur. Inglenook seating by the fireplaces, a high, open-beam, vaulted ceiling, and teddy bears galore make this a much-loved neighborhood haven. It is named for a Denver clubwoman who championed causes ranging from women's suffrage to branch libraries. Next door, in Platte Park, 1510 South Grant Street, is the James A. Fleming House (1882). Fleming, the mayor of South Denver before its annexation to Denver in 1893, used his stone house, with its three prominent round, conical-capped towers, as the town hall.
