Arapahoe Acres
1949, Eugene Sternberg. Dartmouth to Bates aves. between Merion and Franklin sts.

Eugene Sternberg provided the master plan and first five designs for this 100-house development featuring winding streets and grouped driveways to reduce the intrusion of paved areas. Careful siting maximizes privacy, southern exposure, and mountain views. Clean, contemporary designs, characterized by clerestory windows and outdoor patios in cohesive landscaping, set the standard for later designs by other architects. Among Sternberg's other communities is Orchard Hills (1962), a 150-acre development of individually owned homes around a common lake and green space, at Belleview Avenue and Dayton Street in Littleton. As part of the Mile High Housing Association Cooperative Sternberg designed his own home (1951) in the 2400 block of South Dahlia Street in southeast Denver, where thirty-two Sternberg houses in a simple contemporary style surround a communal park.
