In the relaxed ambiance of El Campo, the monumentality of St. Philip's comes as a surprise. The church's entrance doors are framed with a screen of paired cast-stone columns on tall bases. Above these, a Baroque niche is stationed atop a scrolled central window. The towers pay homage to the eighteenth-century mission churches of San Antonio. Next door to the church is the parish school of 1950 and 1956 by Houston architects Goehring and Reichert. Lloyd Reichert was a native son of El Campo.
