1890–1895; 1985 remodeled. 121 Academy St.

Built as one of the first public schools for white students in Southwest Virginia, this building and its slightly later wing were adapted as apartments by a developer in 1985 after the school closed in 1977. The two-and-a-half-story former school is prominently situated at the head of Academy Street. It features a central entrance tower (originally capped by a mansard roof), tall deck-on-hip roof, arched window and door openings, corbeled brickwork, and recessed brick panels.
