The religious life of the African American community is represented by its many churches—three on Holbrook Street alone. The rich brickwork of this Romanesque Revival church gives it an especially lively facade. It features a corbeled and buttressed corner tower with a two-stepped window pattern above a round ventilation opening that is balanced by similar patterning on the opposing side bay of the truncated gable end.
