1910, McLaughlin, Pettit and Johnson. 1124 Main St.

Built for Robert Addison Schoolfield, one of the founders of Dan River, Inc., and his third wife, Sadie, this Mission Revival-influenced house features a red tile roof above a deep overhang supported by doubled brackets. The house's horizontal emphasis, smooth stucco walls, dormers with flared hipped roofs, and heavy porch piers make it one of Main Street's more unusual sights.
