Built of brick laid in Flemish bond, this former tavern and hotel has the parapeted elbow gables that are almost a leitmotif of the era's architecture in Lovingston. Tall nine-over-nine and six-over-nine windows of the Federal period are surmounted by Greek Revival lintels. The simple one-story porch and wings are much later. Diagonally opposite at 632 Front, the former St. Mary's Catholic Church built in 1838 in Greek Revival was later Gothicized, a conversion carried out on a number of early Nelson County classical churches. The polygonal cupola is a fairly close copy of the one on the courthouse. The church is now a commercial building.
