Walton's Mountain Museum is housed in the one-story brick former elementary school. Its Colonial Revival design, seen with some frequency in Virginia, includes a pedimented entrance at each end of the facade and is flanked by a pair of low wings. Inside, the museum features replicas of sets from Earl Hamner Jr.'s television series The Waltons and period memorabilia. To the left is the former school building of c. 1905. It has a shed-roofed, wrap-around porch on the front and the east sides, and a shingled second story with a theater.

At 6300 Rockfish River Road the former Christ Episcopal Church (c. 1920) is a small T-shaped building with a three-tiered, battlemented corner tower on its gable-end entrance. The church has a slate roof, rough stone walls, smooth-stone lintels and sills, and wooden tracery visually reshaping its rectangular windows into pointed arches.
