These houses are a “must-see” for bungalow aficionados. The street was reserved for Nitro's executives, and its houses were larger and occupied more spacious lots than those in sections closer to the plant. Although the bungalows have been altered over the years, the two basic types are still easily discernible. Both are one and one-half stories with expansive front porches. The most obvious difference between the two is in the dormers. One variety has a large, gabled dormer, the other a smaller shed dormer. Some are single-family units while others are duplexes. As 21st Street continues its eastward path beyond the crossing of Blakes Creek and the intersection with 21st Avenue (a short street with similar housing), larger, twoand-one-half-story houses are interspersed among the bungalows.
