The even-numbered side of the 100 block of Capitol Street, firmly anchored at its southeast end by the former Kanawha National Bank (
CH4), comprises downtown's most complete group of late-nineteenth-century commercial buildings. They are generally three or four stories tall, of brick or stone construction, and of Italianate or Romanesque design. At 108 Capitol (1890s), stone arches resting on brick piers seem to imitate a Roman aqueduct, whereas its neighbor at 112 has handsome Italianate lintels and a decorative cornice, all painted in appropriate period colors.
