The barn-red, board-and-batten-sided Carrollton bridge is one of the county's two remaining covered bridges. It stands in an idyllic setting but in the figurative shadow of its more famous Philippi counterpart. The third-oldest covered bridge in the state, it was built by the O'Brien brothers (Emmett had been the masonry contractor at Philippi). It has a 140-foot-9-inch span, making it the second longest clear span of the state's remaining covered bridges. It is 16 feet wide and uses a Burr arch with multiple king-post trusses. A concrete deck and new intermediary piers now help support it.
