Various dates. West side of U.S. 119/250, .5 mile north of the Philippi Covered Bridge

The red- and cream-colored brick buildings of Alderson-Broaddus College—the hyphenated name derives from the merger of two earlier Baptist academies—stand high above Philippi on the west side of the Tygart Valley River. Old Main, as the first structure came to be known, burned in 1977, making Whitecarver Hall, begun in 1911, the oldest building on campus.
