This lavishly embellished stone former bank with a temple front has engaged fluted Ionic columns flanking the central entrance. Ionic pilasters mark the six bays of the side, with its now-blocked windows. A stone water table and a full entablature with a modillion-and-dentil cornice below a paneled parapet complete the classical allusions that paraded the bank's wealth and stability. Although the architect is unknown, the builder, Hamilton, was an African American contractor who was also referred to as an architect-builder.
