This three-story hotel commissioned by businessman Silas W. Crummett of Staunton is the most prominent building in town. Its most outstanding feature is the two-story Eastlake front gallery with delicate spindle friezes and decorative sawnwork. The building's informal plan and spacious and high-ceilinged rooms reflect the layout and characteristics of a resort hotel of its period. Early guests included Harvey Firestone and Henry Ford, who often traveled together sightseeing, camping, and staying in small hotels across the nation. After falling into decline in the mid-twentieth century, the hotel was renovated and reopened in the 1970s.
