1920–1924, Atterbury, Phelps and Tompkins. 75 Beacon Hill Rd.

The remnants of this group of farm buildings, marked by a stone gatehouse, can be glimpsed among the rocky outcroppings. Originally part of Arthur Curtis James's Beacon Hill estate (no longer extant), they were meant to evoke, like Marie Antoinette's Petit Hameau at Versailles, an impossibly picturesque European peasant life. The winding Beacon Hill Road, like others in the area, was part of the extensive system of carriage paths used by summer colonists in the nineteenth century to explore the natural beauty of the area.
