LeBrun's church, which replaced an 1825 William Strickland building for an earlier St. Luke's church, was described at the time of its construction as being โ€œof the purest Gothic style, of stone obtained in the immediate vicinity.โ€ Multiple additions and renovations followed, including J. and R. Lamb's interior frescoes in 1887 and a 1920 parish house by the Zantzinger firm, Philadelphia's most fashionable society architects, along with Samuel Yellin's sumptuous ironwork.
