LeBrun's church, which replaced an 1825 William Strickland building for an earlier St. Luke's church, was described at the time of its construction as being “of the purest Gothic style, of stone obtained in the immediate vicinity.” Multiple additions and renovations followed, including J. and R. Lamb's interior frescoes in 1887 and a 1920 parish house by the Zantzinger firm, Philadelphia's most fashionable society architects, along with Samuel Yellin's sumptuous ironwork.
