The year Danville was founded, Colonel William Montgomery built this more substantial residence to replace his original log house built in 1777. The fieldstone house and its attached frame wing are now operated as a museum by the Montour County Historical Society. It is a two-and-one-half-story Federal town house with a three-bay facade, a pedimented entrance with transom, a simple cornice, and six-over-nine windows with their original wooden shutters. The interior has a hall-and-parlor plan with wide plank floors and plaster walls with chair rails. Beautifully preserved, this first settler's house is set back from the street behind a stone retaining wall surmounted by a small picket fence.
