Mooresburg's is the earliest of eight rural schools built in Liberty Township between 1875 and 1886, where students from grades one through eight were educated until the middle of the twentieth century. The gablefronted brick building is surmounted by a wooden belfry. Rebuilt in 1891, the schoolhouse was more style-conscious than was usual. The windows and doors are set in recessed bays topped by corbeled brick more commonly found on urban commercial buildings; the flooring is yellow pine laid in a diagonal pattern like a mill; and the lower walls are wainscoted. In the schoolyard survive the separate vertical plank outhouses for girls and boys as well as the coal shed that supplied the stove used to heat the schoolhouse.
