1929, Vincent Russoniello. 316 Parrish St.

Russoniello was the most creative of the architects who built their careers in the ethnic communities of the northern anthracite region. This is a sure-handed work of black and white marble and tile, a bit of Siena in a Wilkes-Barre neighborhood. Hidden at S. Grant and Lehigh streets is another of Robert Ireland's intriguing schools (
LU36), the Grand Army of the Republic Junior/Senior High School (1925). This one is not notable for its detailing but for its vast windows that give the building a strongly modern character.
