Ironmaster of Mount Hope Furnace Clement Grubb commissioned this superb Greek Revival house that is one of the first instances in Lancaster of the shift in fashion from the Georgian-based styles of the eighteenth century. Most notable are the Doric (in contrast to the customary Roman Tuscan) columns of the front porch that indicate a builder using Stewart and Revett's Antiquities of Athens (1762) rather than the old pattern books.
