This one-story gabled building represents a type of house commonly constructed in the late nineteenth century. Many miners and tradesmen in northern Nevada built individualistic, eclectic, and highly decorative houses. The Smaill House uses Eastlake-inspired wood porch trim and has an exuberant carved bargeboard; a gable pendant, often seen in houses of this type during that period; and a framed circular vent. Builders constructed the shell of a house and then applied prefabricated wood ornamentation.
