Thornrose Cemetery was established when the town graveyard at Trinity Episcopal Church became overcrowded. The cemetery is entered through a Romanesque Revival rusticated stone gatehouse with a broad round-arched gateway topped by a pyramid-shaped roof with a diminutive cupola. Surrounding walls protect the varied grave markers set among winding paths and trees on the hilly site.
