The Catholic church converted this former convent to a high school for girls in 1922. The architects, from Boston, were among the leading Catholic church designers of the first half of the twentieth century and had a nationwide practice. Charles Maginnis, the designing partner, was the Catholic equivalent of Ralph Adams Cram and the architect of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. Maginnis had a facility with several styles, including the Spanish Colonial Revival, which he used for this structure, although how well it suits Richmond is questionable.
