A frequently encountered house type of the mid-nineteenth century was the one-and-a-half-story Greek Revival dwelling with a central hall. In this example the upper row of five half-windows is directly under the roof soffit. To the rear, the roof is carried down to the first floor, producing the effect of a miniaturized New England saltbox. The builders of this yellow sandstone dwelling were likely its designers as well.
