Although Heard was responsible for many traditional Colonial Revival houses, he sometimes designed picturesque residences, such as this one, the second house built in Forest Park. Constructed for the head of a printing company, this Dutch Colonial Revival gable-front house has long monitor gables down the side elevations and a side porch recessed under a splayed roof. Nearby, the Williams House (1928; 442 Hawthorne) is a cross-gable design in a rich mixture of brick, stone, and slate.
