This is one of the many post-Prohibition stores managed by the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC). There was a uniform Moderne design for the stores. A center plate-glass window is flanked by glass-block windows that each curve back to a door—one for entrance and the other for exit. Heavy fluted concrete piers mark the ends of the building and more delicate fluting frames the doors. ABC stores are single-story buildings and, for security purposes, without a residence above the shop.
