The now-commercial southern end of N. Main Street retains this survivor from the time the street was residential. Chase City booster and developer George Endly, who moved here from Ohio, hired Holt to rebuild his house. Holt had returned to Southside from North Carolina after the Civil War. The center-passage house is elaborated with a one-story porch across the front, a bracketed cornice, round-headed sash windows in paired rectangular frames, a round window in the centered gable, and an elaborate frontispiece. All are favorite Holt elements, and some clearly inspired by designs in William H. Ranlett's The Architect (1849–1851).
