Until the late 1780s, when they constructed a log chapel on Main Street, Methodists had worshipped in private houses. The present building is their third church. A corner bell tower with a wood-shingled belfry and diminutive balconies is the striking feature of this brick cross-gabled church. The spacious interior has auditorium-type seating, a balcony at the rear, a flat-vaulted ceiling, and stained glass in the pointed-arched windows. A modern Sunday school and office addition extends along Main Street. The cemetery behind the church contains tombstones dating from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
