Emanuel Episcopal Church

c. 1850. VA 301 (.75 mile north), Port Conway

The employment of the fashionable Gothic Revival idiom in a remote rural area in Virginia is unusual for this date. The one-story brick structure, only two bays long, has prominent engaged buttresses. Nonetheless, it exerts a presence through the verticality of the tower, which, incongruously, has a prominent Italianate bracketed cornice.
