1940, Thomas Tileston Waterman. King St. at the river

Waterman, an architect, architectural historian, and one of the original Colonial Williamsburg restorers, was sufficiently enamored of Port Royal to build his own house here, facing a garden and backing onto a lane that descends to the river. Its single-story height, U-shaped plan, and stucco finish appear to have been influenced by Waterman's vacations in the Caribbean. Details are rendered in a simple neoclassical manner with which he was very conv-ersant.
