Along the original west wall of the Alamo compound is a unified quartet of three-story Italianate buildings with metal cornices that were built for William and Albert Maverick. The buildings' facades make use of ornamental cast-iron shop fronts, with carefully cut limestone on the second and third floors. The rough-cut stones of the south wall reveal the typical local vernacular German masonry, which had a coarser character than the dressed limestone of the facades.
