Only three years separated the Stevens ( SA17) and Staacke buildings, yet Gordon apparently was more interested in contrast than compatibility, the only similarity being the three-bay vertical ordering of the facades. Here Gordon turned to Renaissance Revival. The first two floors are treated as a triple-arched triumphal arch. On the third floor, he inserted a pair of nonclassical recessed and rounded bays at each end of the facade, and topped the building with a scroll pediment with flanking balustrades.
