The largest nineteenth-century residence in town, the Bierschwale House stands out due to its two-story height and L-shaped plan, and was built for a state representative and county clerk. The Alfred Giles drawings for the house called for a one-story porch, which was evidently changed during construction to the present two-story design decorated with flat jigsaw-cut railings. The house is now a bed-and-breakfast.
