One of the largest and most monumental of the commercial buildings on Main Street, the Schwarz Building was constructed as a combination store and residence for Charles Schwarz. The general merchandise store was located on the first floor, with the Schwarz family residence above, taking advantage of the large cast-iron veranda overlooking the street. The exterior of the building has survived intact, preserving the especially monumental limestone walls with their rock-faced finish.
