Henry Basse, who along with his brother Hugo operated the Basse Brothers Cement Yard, made full use of his company's precast-concrete products in his large Prairie School– influenced house. Of particular interest are the cast-concrete porch columns on the first floor. The overall design of the house reflects the influence of contemporary house pattern books, which may have been familiar to Basse in his business of producing building materials.
