Built of local stone, the jail has a massive twenty-foot-high stone wall on its west side for the prison yard. During construction, the county commissioners asked for additional jail cells, so Avery Frink included the front brick extension with stone trim. The large circular battlemented tower is similar in effect to Frink's tower for Bradford County's 1871–1873 jail (
BR10).
