At the triangular intersection of Court and Main streets is the Hart Block, an office building whose south wing was begun in 1896 and the larger north wing completed four years later. It occupies the site of Josiah Hart's house that became available when Milton Bean designed a new house for him in 1892. The eclectic conflation of elements, the iron roof crestings, and the adaptation to the irregular site denote the sensibility of a Victorian architect—perhaps Bean—but the light tone of the brick walls and limestone trim and the tall French roof show the influence of Richard Morris Hunt.
