One of the more fanciful and ornate cottages designed by Mead and White, this was built for Cincinnati hardware merchant Telgham Pickering and his wife, Anna (1888–1906). A picturesque assortment of shapes flows around the mass, merging interior and exterior spaces by means of towers, dormers, covered porches, balconies, stairways, and large windows. Shingle roofing and shingle and clapboard siding integrate the composition. Originally the shingles were painted a dark color such as olive to blend with nature.
