Prominent Baltimore architect Long Jr. conceived Ascension Episcopal according to the Ecclesiological Society’s principles guiding Anglican church design in this period. The diminutive church is only four bays deep and has a small entrance vestibule at the gable end. Rubble stone laid in random ashlar coursing creates a lively exterior. A trefoil window over the entrance, stone bell cote at the roof peak, and lancet windows on the side and rear elevations all contribute to its picturesque Gothic Revival appearance. The interior is simply finished with white plaster walls and exposed wood rafters and scissor trusses.
