Woodland Cemetery was laid out in the mid-nineteenth century. A system of picturesque winding roads was established throughout its gently rolling tree-covered hills. The cemetery houses a full contingent of characteristic nineteenth- and twentieth-century monuments and mausoleums. None of these is extraordinary, but as a group in relationship to the landscape, they create a romantically picturesque image.
