Crowned by a square, open bell tower, this two-story frame false-fronted building with a central, arched entry housed the town hall and fire department until 1952. One of the most picturesque structures in a picturesque town, it has shiplap siding and distinctive round arches that form a motif on the flush board facade cut to look like ashlar masonry. The old stone jailhouse (c. 1883) sits behind at 409 2nd Street.
